Russian Spam Posts

Postby Sir Michael Le Fanu » Tue May 31, 2011 11:35 pm

I was searching through the MOC Announcements part of the site, and I noticed like 6 posts with what looks like Russian text, and I am unsure whether to call it spam or not. I noticed that somebody (whom I do not remember their name at the time of this post) had translated it in Google Translate, and it was practically jibberish. Does anybody actually speak or read Russian here?

I am just wondering why CSF seems to be a target for people.

I don't remember any spam on the old forum. I think that without more frequent moderation we're open to the interwebs at large.

Looks like some kind of bot got through the registration and is posting spam.
I hope the Mods can take care of it before it gets out of hand like the old forum.

Well, I think we need some more Mods then, because our current Mod is rarely online and the same goes for all of the admins. Blake is the only one who actually visits at least every 2 weeks.

There is like 4 more of these posts. Someone, honestly contact Blake and whoever else. THIS IS GETTING REDICULOUS. We need to clean up this website of all that is spam.

I deleted all the posts and the user. The account was created before SteveR set up the current spam countermeasures on the registration page. As far as I know, nothing has slipped through the cracks since then.

Well, today (Feb 16 2014) it appears to be Polish spambots. Unfortunately as a moderator I can't remove the offenders, simply lock and or delete posts.

Peace and sighs,...

Click on the username of the offendor, choose the Administer User option, follow the prompts to delete all users posts, ban options (IP, email, etc.) and delete posts.
