Tutorial: (slightly) advanced links

Postby Blackicep8ntball » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:24 pm

I'm getting paid right now to sit and do nothing, so I figured I would throw this out there.

This tutorial will show you how to:
1) add basic hyperlinks (e.g. http://classic-space.com);
2) create hyperlinks that appear as whatever text you choose (e.g. I chose the link to appear this way); and:
3) even create picture links (e.g. Image) and combined picture-text links (e.g. the pictures/text in my signature).

1) Basic Hyperlinks
The easiest way to create a hyperlink in your post is by simply clicking the URL button that appears right over the text editor screen and adding your URL address between the two bracketed ""s. (Hint: You can also just type out "")

E.g.:
1) Click URL; you'll see "" appear;
2) insert the url between the middle brackets: "http://classic-space.com"
3) and viola! You have: http://classic-space.com

2) "Your Own Text" hyperlinks
Don't want the actual address to appear as your link? No problem! By adding the equal sign (=) after the "l" in the first bracketed "url", and by pasting the address after the equal sign, you can then type whatever you want between the brackets and only that text between will appear in your completed post.

E.g.:
1) start with "" as you did for the basic hyperlink.
2) add the equal sign and the url address: "",
3) type whatever text you want between the brackets: "Super Cool Website![/url.]".
4) Voila! --> Super Cool Website!

3) Photo and Hybrid hyperlinks
These hyperlinks will appear as a photo instead of as text. Follow the same basic steps for creating "Your Own Text" hyperlinks, only add an image between the brackets instead of text.

E.g.:
1) start with "" as you did for the basic hyperlink.
2) add the equal sign and the url address: "",
3) place your cursor between the middle brackets and click the "Img" button (or type ""): "".
4) put the image link between the "img" brackets: ""
4) And...Voila! --> Image (< Go ahead - click it!)

Hybrid hyperlinks
If you want both text and a picture to appear, just type your text outside of the two bracketed "img"s but between the bracketed "urls":
E.g.
1) It will look something like this: "Classic Space Site:"
2) And you have: Classic Space Site: Image

There it is! You're welcome to ask any questions, and I'll do my best to answer. Keep brickin'!

This is indeed a great post especially because the Flickr Terms of service specify that any photo posted outside of the flickr site must link back to the photo page. This is a little trickier here than html sites because you can't just copy/paste the code from the share menu on the photo page. For those of you that care about TOS and all that legal stuff, option 3 is the answer for flickr photos.
