The Manticore WIP SHIP

Postby Blake » Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:36 pm

I had a thread on this in the old forum, although I don't remember when I last updated it. Since this is an ongoing project, I'm starting a new one.

The Manticore is my third SHIP. It's a war ship centered around a gigantic weapon. The main weapon is loosely inspired by a ship from an old computer game, and so I've named this ship after it. The ship in the computer game was in turn named after a mythological monster with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It seemed like an appropriate name for a ship that is bristling with weapons.

Here's the latest WIP photo. I've made substantial progress since I took this picture. The port side (which is largely missing in this photo) has now caught up with the starboard side.

Construction is about half done now. If I remain true to my sketch, the ship will be about 190 studs long when complete. I started this project nearly 4 months ago, so I don't expect to finish it any time in the immediate future.

Can I.... Can I have missile bays?

it looks STELLAR! I'm so inspired by the industrial look of it all, you're capturing the weapon thing so well. Can't wait to see it as a final project... this summer? :D

Oh, and I checked out your website. UMass is topping my list for graduate school, since it's so close- I have a younger brother that might go there next year for his undergraduate. Wicked :D

Thanks everyone!

pmemmer -- I haven't thought about the engines in great detail yet, but I'm striving for epicness.

mdilthey -- I'm hoping to finish it over the summer. I had serious builder's block for awhile, but progress has been picking up lately. UMass is a great school! What are you planning to study?

Your SHIP is coming along nicely! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Looks awesome! I'll be interested to see some pics of the entire finished interior. Shape-wise I really like the curved bell-rounds on the front, like gun emplacements. Very nice!
