Lego's Unnessary Re-Tooling (A Rant)

I find the "new" "headlight" brick to be at least a useful as the original headlight brick-it's far more stable than a half-pin in a TECHNIC 1x1 brick. I don't see much of a problem with that 3x6 cockpit piece (except that I don't really like it), but I guess it can be an issue. I definitely prefer the old cockpits-the new ones just aren't the same.

A good idea, but I am fairly sure TLC just recycles the plastic, so no discarding bricks.

I think though a lot of the new pieces are uglier then their older equivalents they all seem to be changed for good reason. All sorts of pieces have been changed and replaced over the years. So far I haven't heard anyone complaining about the lack of Jack Stone wall pieces or galidor figures.

Thats because nobody really liked Jack Stone. Either way, there are good and bad reasons why LEGO is making parts that are more simple.

good reasons: It saves plastic, which means more bricks for us.
It helps save the environment.(kinda)

bad reasons: It means few parts are going to have cool designs on them.
It also means they aren't printing on parts-instead we must use stickers. (I puke in my mouth just at the thought of stickered parts.)

When looking for antennae on Bricklink, I came across this:



At first I thought I was looking at an old prototype version of this piece, but nope. These are coming with the most recent 2011 sets:

I personally like the older version better, as it was more streamlined. The new version is just kind of, well, blunt. I suppose I can see the Design Lab's reasoning, but I think if you're looking for a more pole-like piece, we've already got the umbrella stand or the lightsaber blade.

Don't get me started on the latest jet canopy...
