Thanks a lot guys! The model was build using LDraw, and it was rendered using POV-Ray. They are both free programs.

Does anyone have suggestions for places I can promote the project and/or for a Space education program I can donate the profits to if my project eventually gets selected?

You could give the proceeds to a childrens foundation, it only makes sense to give something you earned from a toy to someone who may need one

Promoting it, well, not too sure. There's always other forums that you could post it in, you could advertise on LEGO Related websites (costly) or blog about it if you have a blog or if your blog is popular.

I like this and I'm going to support it. I would love to see some NASA concept designs become sets. Another good idea would be to make the dragon capsule by space-x. Other than the space marines, which is an awesome design and the exo- suit the other space based things are not gaining massive support.
