| EndCapo Contributor Aaron M. Snearyposts: 2500 | The winner of the contest is Spook and his VSER!![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/spook0114/526378811/ CONGRATS! PM me with your address, Spook, for your prize-o-parts. I am sponsoring a Moon Rover building contest. This is one of my favorite vehicle types for space, and they add a lot to a Moonbase Module setup. PRIZES First, let me say, there will be a prize. It will be a small package of fun, random parts from my collection. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of one of my parts packages can tell you, they are sweet. JUDGING Judging will be done based on the criteria below plus general 'Wow!' factor as deemed by the judges. There will be three judges, myself and two kind volunteers. Our two mystery judges have been selected. Judging may take a couple of days, but not more than 7. ROVER CRITERIA To qualify for this contest, the following criteria should be followed. 1. Uses two or more wheels for motive power (please note, this doesn't mean you have to use a 'wheel part'. Any round part is viable. Treads too) 2. The MOC should not be more than 16 studs in any dimension (these are meant to be small, personal transports) 3. The primary purpose of the vehicle should be transportation and/or exploration. Military vehicles need not apply. 4. It should have seating for at least one minifigure. Everything else is up to you. But here are some ideas to chew on. Is it enclosed or open to poisonous space air? Does it have a place for tool storage? Does it have signalling lights like a modern car, for the busy moonbase? A satellite uplink? Is it very fast, for the flat plains, or have chunky tires for rough, uneven regolith? Is it a brightly coloured sport model, or a utilitarian grey work vehicle? UPDATE It is not a requirement for qualification, but I strongly encourage competitors to use brick built wheels. Since wheels are the defining element of a rover, creativity there is sure to earn some brownie points. SUBMISSION The due date will be June 30th. These are not huge, so that should be plenty of time. Please post your MOC to MOC Announcements, and post to this thread "I have entered the Moon Rover contest" ENTRIES DavrosII : http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?52256.last LEGOHAULIC: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2538256 Spook: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spook0114/526378811/ Olog: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Olog/MoonRover/picture_028.jpg Xenobuzz: http://www.xenobuzz.com/MyLegoCreations/Extreme Terrain Rover.htm M=n: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mequalspi/533597125/ Zachmoe: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7969176@N03/535276495/in/photostream/ Piotrek builder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=258311 thebrickbin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebrickbin/543362979/ Zog (Paul): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=259426 Tommyfilth: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=259461 Legovaughn: http://www.flickr.com/photos/legolab/sets/72157600339407212/ Jared: http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?52828.last MonsterMash: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=260142 Jayfo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38755933@N00/570547681/ Will Vale: http://www.secondintention.com/pleasure/lego/moondog/ Weasel47:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=261922 Oleth: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=261954 Broken Egg: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262498 vonBlock: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262467 Yoderism: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=258002 Watkins: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262526 BusterBuilder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262595 Winter Mute: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262794 FilmMaker Paul: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/FilmmakerPaul/other-space-stuff/Moonrover/4335.jpg Squeaker: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=251210 Gebler: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262791 Endigo-Vandane: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262930 Constable Dan: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262949 pkowalcz: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262969 TargetBoy: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=263017 Ook: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=263112 Dr. Terrible: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tdeering/sets/72157600576066184/ Bram: http://lego.bldesign.org/?v=new porschecm2: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=263188 TIMES UP!! But I'm not budging on military vehicles (or commercial vehicles for 'Giant Laser Cannons for your rover' businesses). Aaron ...Conquering the world, one colour scheme at a time. | Ryan posts: 320 | A construction rover wouldn't commercial anyways, would it? It would be Industrial would it not? I might enter this, we'll see if I can come up with a nifty method to do the wheels without making them look like plastic wheels. What if an something suce as an antenna on top takes it to 22 studs; or if when utilities are extended the length goes to 21? boring, nenn is an artist not a LEGO builder, does not belong | ||

| EndCapo Contributor Aaron M. Snearyposts: 2500 | Paul, Thanks for adding it to the front page. Ryan (and all) I am encouraging the use of unique or ingenious ways to build wheels. Matt, One contest for rovers. The requisite coolness factor will have to supercede the clone parts. Mork, The dimension rule is pretty strict. They are meant to be small. However, since a good looking antenna is important to any rover worth it's wheels, we will make exceptions for antennae. Utility extensions like grabber arms should be stowable inside the 16 studs, and this playability shown. Wheels, frame, body and windscreen should fit inside the 16 studs limit. | I like me. Nick Dean posts: 510 | ColourSchemer said ... Wheels, frame, body and windscreen should fit inside the 16 studs limit. So I'm guessing that means that less than a stud's length of snot sticking off the edge of the 16 stud limit is not allowed? Like headlights that stick over, or paneling, or the rear hatch? I have a rover built, but due to snotting, it's slightly over the limit. -Nick [ Edited Mon May 28 2007, 09:09AM ] ~My Flickr~ | ||
