"Here we are
Born to be kings.
We're the princes of the universe . . ."

It all started with ChiefLUG . . .

Conceived on January 5th at the first meeting and just a day after Zach threw down
the gauntlet with the Porph's awesomeness the epic micro journey began.

Presenting the four-week-long effort of the four founding builders of Chieflug:
The oMICROn Weekend.

(please bear with us as add more and more photos. it's going to be a busy weekend on flickr)

Original Omicron Weekend by Keithlug

There is much to the tale and probably too much for a single post but here's
the story:

We knew we would need some truly epic micro to be able to even come close to
outdoing the Porph. We all wanted to do something of Keith's. We toyed with
the idea of doing the Ghoul, then the Nova Taurus, then the Nova Taurus with
the whole dio. And then it hit us, if we're gonna do a dio, do the mother of
all dios. That's right Keith's mother. . .

It was at the fateful first gathering on January 5th where Andrew fiddled with parts creating the bridge of what would become the micro Asmodeus and Scotty worked on a Post-Apoc dio, Ry began to look realistically at doing Ryan Rubino’s Wheel in microscale. We left the meet with no real progress to show: Andrew had the bridge and the skull for
the Asmodeus, Scotty a mostly complete dio, and Ry had a simple ring layout of wingplates.

Fast forward one week: Gary joins the fray, driving up to LA from San Diego.
We eat a veggie platter and get serious. Andrew starts cranking out vehicles
while Gary builds the lighthouse, the ring is becoming recognizable at this
point. Through the interwebs Scotty provides a viable design for the boats.
At the end of the meet we set homework assignments.

January 18th and 19th: Andrew drives down to San Diego to rock out and build at
Gary's pad. Utilizing the miracle of the internet and video chat Ry builds
in virtual concert. The Wheel is nearing completion, more vehicles are
completed, the water table takes shape and the ground work for the whole dio
begins. Another veggie platter is demolished.

January 26th, aka MegaChiefLugbuildathoncon: We all meet at Ry's place again: Gary drives up again and Scotty rolls in from an hour north of LA. By this time the Wheel is
pretty much done and the Heavy VTOL is complete. The coastline gets
going, groundwork is laid for the train and the underground level is completed. The
large landing pad gets its due, and smaller buildings begin to form. We
establish the dark gray plated layer for the main level of buildings. Both of the Katies (Andrew's and Ry's) are extremely bored by this point. Hurray for the very supportive Honorary Members of Chieflug! By the end of the day the enormity of the work still to do begins to sink in. Scotty and Gary go back to their homelands, while Ry and Andrew are left to fight for survival.
Yet another veggie platter bites the dust.

The next five days are a blur. Between repeated playings of the Omicron
soundtrack, hours upon hours of building, too much Lego math, and thoughts of the Donut King II Andrew and Ry forge on. The layout finally starts to look like the original as we finish the main buildings, landing pads, moutainous terrain, snow, more vehicles, more snow, more buildings… you get the point.

Without further ado and with great satisfaction and pride we the builders of ChiefLUG present some truly epic microscale.

Special shout-outs to The Katies, Gary's wife, Scotty's folks, and of course Keith, Mike, and Ryan for the awesome original Omicron Weekend.

Damn. I think I'm going to call in sick tomorrow so I can spend the entire night checking this out.

I considered doing this. After I got your reply back from the PM I sent you, I thought you might be tackling this monster. I don't know what to say. I'm going over to flickr now to absorb what I can. It's difficult to describe this with words. It's beautiful.

I'm going to be in Southern CA visiting the girlfriend on Mon-Thurs of the upcoming week. Any chance I can drive over one night and check this out? I can bring the micro porph if you guys have any interest in checking it out...

Hell yes Zach, join the fray! There's a good chance I'll be out of town on Tuesday night/ Wednesday day but I'd love to check out the Porph in person.

SNOT: It's what's for breakfast.

The White VTOL and the little Grey ones are amazing. I really dig the cemetery......Pun not intended. Over all I have to say this is one of my favorite Dio's along with Keith's Nova Taurus and dio.

Wow, great job guys! You not only emulated a MOC in micro but emulated the LUG as well, though not in micro.

The attention to detail, everything is prefect! Well done! I love the story of this coming together too!

Now where are the t-shrits?
