Hey you. Yes, you! Have you heard about ChiefLUG? No? Well, ChiefLUG is a superrad group of Lego fans dedicated to veggie platters, crazy group builds, being awesome, and pretending to be half as cool as KeithLUG. You might be familiar with our work.

Are you interested in joining ChiefLUG? You can't. Well, couldn't. But now you can! Here's how!

The initiation will take place October 2-5, 2008 at BrickCon in Seattle, WA. ChiefLUG is planning a display devoted to everyone's favorite SciFi space drama, Battlestar Galactica, and your initiation into ChiefLUG is to build a Viper to add to our fleet. There are currently 6 Vipers in various stages of construction for this display, and we'd like to see more!

The design for the build is Andrew's (wintermute, onosendai) fantastic Viper mkII. See his full gallery here.

Color inspiration

You can go for the standard white and red version, or go crazy and build it in another color scheme (Vipers currently being built include black w/ lime green striping and dark bley w/ orange striping.) Color limitations for certain pieces in Andrew's Viper construction will require you to possibly rebuild parts of the design. Moderate modifications fit with the rough look of Galactica's patchwork fleet, but please try your best to copy his design as closely as possible!

Hope to see you and your Viper at BrickCon, where you will be welcomed into the heralded ranks of ChiefLUG.

So if someone can successfully copy Andrew's Viper, they're in?

I might be living up there by then, and i might consider trying this. But in this picture, among others, the nose appears to droop quite a bit, like there is something forcing it downward. Is that the secret technique that copiers are supposed to figure out, or just an optical illusion?

Danr: I'll send you mine when Fradel's done with it.

Worker: This isn't really intended to be a test of building skill or solving a puzzle. If the construction photos in Andrew's gallery aren't enough, I will be happy to help provide more pics.
The droop is an optical illusion- the nose is straight.

A puzzle might have been more interesting, actually.

Are stickers required?

Hopefully I'll be moved back to Oregon by then.

Looks like I'll be coming to NWBC. So, no making a 150 stud long viper, then? I don't know if I can actually build small.

Heh, so Dan get's the viper after me, eh? I might just have to slow my pace down a bit. Uh oh, I think I actually lost the Viper during my move. I'll have to send out a SAR team to look for it.

I shall attempt to buy my new father's love with an orange-striped black and dark gray Viper with trans-blue canopy.

Unfortunatly, I can't join any Lug mainly because I dont have any money for dues nor can I drive anywhere, (used all my money on my Laptop) So for those of us who aren't joining a Lug, is someone going too post instructions for this? Some people can't work from photo's. :/

Can I build a Viper and mail it to you? NWBC is on the wrong coast.

I'm overwhelmed by the response so far as seen on Flickr. You guys rock. This is going to be a great display.

Carter: I don't see why we couldn't work something out. The more the merrier, and I don't mean to exclude people who can't come. I will accept Vipers posted to Flickr as initiation, though you will sadly miss the in-person ChiefLUG high fives and back-slapping.
