Since this gained a positive response in the R&D forum, I'll post the main contest thread here.

Hey, everyone, it's...

Here's the deal...
We all know that everyone's first MOCs are usually only allowed to be modest at best. Eventually, your first Starfighter or Robot gets cannibalized for those other creations where you slowly explore and improve your own style. However, it's not always for lack of Idea that those first attempts aren't much to look at; The idea is there, but the brick skills aren't. But did you ever look back at what you've built before and wondered what could have been if you were as experienced back then?

So here's the point of the contest:
Take one of your earliest creations (if not the earliest) and recreate it, using the lessons and techniques you know now. Despite the name of the contest, it does not have to be exactly your first creation.

Rules

-All entries are due at Midnight, November 30th.

-All entries must be new, original creations that have not been completed before the date this thread was started.

-All entries to be considered for judging must be posted in this thread with a picture of the original for comparison.

The judges will be Myself, Zach (Zachmoe) and Lukas (Gladius). Judging will be based on Quality as well as improvement on and resemblance to the original.

There will be two categories: "Small to Medium-small" and "Medium-large to Large." Please mark which category you'd like to enter your creation in on your post. One entry per builder in each category.

The winner of the Small to Medium-Small category will receive a Brick-Built Trophy, and the winner of the Medium-Large to Large category will receive a $50 Lego Gift Card (Both donated generously by Zach).
UPDATE

As further incentive (and to hopefully push some people to build and post), both of the winners will get a trophy (some kind of MOC I'll be building in the next couple of days...you will not be disappointed, unless you really are ungrateful), a nice bag of swag (everyone can use more Lego) and both winners will get a gift card (not sure how much yet, but again, you won't be disappointed). However, you should just build a MOC for the contest because you love me, not because I'm giving you stuff.

Define the categories in terms of dimensions, please. It's rather vague. Is large a SHIP? Or it is under 50 studs long?

Can we enter both categories?

Also, I'm signing up.

I'd like to possibly remake this. It's from February 2003, about the time i started posting things to the interwebs. I won't make a promise to build it, because I've broken too many of those promises lately, but I'll do my best. Brickcon projects come first though.

And "Only a trophy"? Wow. How ungrateful. Trophies have been awarded as prizes at cons and in contests for years. Have we gotten so greedy that we expect contest runners to supply only sets?

By land, by sea, by dirigible,
We'll leave our tracks untraceable.

Sounds like an awesome contest. I feel I must point out though, that properly the title should read "Rebuild Your First MOC, But Well!"

I'm glad you added the caveat, because trying to remember what I built back in 1982 would require some kind of time machine.

Awesome idea!

Sorry if this picture's a bit big, but I recently had some old slides scanned for me, and this one is dated July, 1979. I was ten years old, so if it's not my first MOC, it's definitely one of the first!

It's gonna be a BLAST to reinterpret this, especially with all the colors!
