| Dave Schuler posts: 91 | This isn't about an MOC, but I thought it fitting to post in the Mutant forum. Check out the Mega Bloks Halowars site when you have the chance. I have four of the current sets, and IMO they're fantastic. I've never even played the game, but I love the designs of the ship and vehicles. The Spartan minifigs are excellent, too. Further sets are planned, and you can get a glimpse of some of the contenders by signing up on the site and going through the "vote" process. | ||

Just get rid of the specially molded pieces and replace them with suitable "real bricks" and these would be the best sets ever made by Lego. you bring your pen and I'll bring my sword and we'll see who wins. | Dave Schuler posts: 91 | I'm happy to report that there are relatively few over-specialized elements this time around. The canopies are molded, of course, and the Scorpion has a one-piece barrel and molded armor panels, but the majority of the construction is brick-based.

| Lars posts: 148 | Thanks dave for that information, I searched the german stores, it seems that nobody have them! How about the UK! The Halowars is something what Lego would need. The Mars stuff is boring and the Star-Wars thing is always a bit the same. There will be a day when I have millions of bricks... | ||

| Dave Schuler posts: 91 | Frankus said ... How's the quality of this batch of bricks? Still majorly inferior to Lego, or is it getting better? I would describe the quality as better than we've seen from Mega Bloks but still not equal to LEGO. A rep from MEGA Brands informed me that they're using a new resin, and IMO the bricks definitely have a different "feel" to them. One thing worth mentioning is that a great many of the bricks are molded in a simple camouflage pattern, so that you might have a hard time mixing them in with with your existing brick inventories. However, there are a lot of cool elements in Dark Gray, too. I know almost nothing about the Halo Wars universe, so I can't speak to the overall accuracy of the designs, but they're extremely cool IMO. Worth buying even to someone like me who can't tell a Banshee from a Scorpion without a Jane's guide! | ||

I can't comment on European availability, but over at The Bloks Forum we have two members from France, and they've complained that they can't the sets as yet. Sorry about that...

| Bertelmann posts: 256 | Salute Dave, I have seen them on the MB webside, they are not available over here! The idea to create a SciFi theme is really good, but I have to say too, that I know almost nothing about the Halo Wars universe! When it comes down to the design of the sets, yes, that is the right way. Not to much specially molded pieces, cool design and the right theme (SciFi), but what we do not need are camouflaged bricks and these ugly MiniFigs. Hope that they will move back to the classic MB-MiniFigs but a bit more solid! Elch There can't be enough bricks! | ||

| Dave Schuler posts: 91 | Hi, Elch! I'll always have a fondness for the old Mega Bloks minifigs. My favorites are the ones that began with the Alien Agency series--they were solid like LEGO minfigs but had sculpted torsos and heads. The highly articulated minifigs are all right, but they lack a certain charm that the old style had. said ... Unitron6991: Saw 'em at Target. THEY LOOK CHEAP! I mean the figs look like bad clay jobs from MOCpages. Actually, they're better than you probably think. A few years back I saw a life-size sculpture of a Halo Spartan, and these minifigs do a great job of capturing the "feel" of the soldier even within the constraints of scale and design. The Halo Wars minifigs are better than Mega Bloks' recent King Arthur minifigs. Anyway, here's a quick rendering of some of the new elements offered in the Halo Wars sets. This image doesn't represent the actual colors, but it'll give you an idea of what they look like. | ||

| Bertelmann posts: 256 | Hi Dave! The Alien Agency series had much better Minifigs! To be honest, the classic Lego ones are better. They keep the abstract line to make it not to realistic! But, this is simply my opinion! Elch There can't be enough bricks! | ||

| Dave Schuler posts: 91 | The classic LEGO minifigs will always be my favorites, because the basic smiley face is so wonderfully simple that it's hard to improve upon it. Although I appreciate the cleverness of the design of the current Mega Bloks figures, I miss the more abstract style, too. | ||

| Josh posts: 8 | I bought my son the tank and the bricks are better than they used to be but not near the same quality as lego. While the innstructions aren't too bad the lack of quality here (the pictures show wrong or unavailable pieces) is again present. And sadly while the model is nice to look at on a shelf it breaks easily when lightly played with and due to the track design near impossible to turn. So if you plan for it to sit on a shelf its fine but don't buy it for your son's play thing. It was the first purchase of mega blocks and my last. Why ask why? | ||

| Dave Schuler posts: 91 | I haven't had the problems that you describe, but I've heard similar assessments by a number of people. Overall, the problem appears to be a lack of consistent quality control. My UNSC Scorpion set, for instance, went together very well, and I haven't had much trouble driving it around. But I've heard other people report that this or that piece didn't stay in place, or that the joint between the tread assembly and the main body was weak, or whatever. I've been a huge Mega Bloks fan for close to 17 years, and I really think that they've done a great job so far with the Halo Wars line, but it's clear that they've made a few small but significant errors in design. One question, though; if this was your "first purchase of mega blocks and (your) last," how did you know that "the bricks are better than they used to be?" [ Edited Thu Oct 22 2009, 06:51PM ] | ||

| Bertelmann posts: 256 | Is it really so important if it fits hundred percent, do we build for fun or for perfection. How often I bought a set from LEGO and it was really badly designed. I started playing and in the same way altering the set to make it more playable. When I remember properly, wasn't that the purpose of LEGO... But whenever MB comes in sight, people start to complain about clutching power etc., how often I had clutching problems with my LEGO-Mocs? This is always more a purity discussion and nothing else, yes, you are right, the quality of LEGO is better, but do we all drive a Mercedes (sorry it wasn't Ford) because they were the first who build a car. The Halo War theme from Mego Bloks is a nice thing and I would love to see such a topic within LEGO too. LEGO is not always the driving force in the brick-world, a few things were done first by the clones like military and farmer stuff. Hope we see more Halo-Wars sets (my only wish is they skip the Minifigs), and maybe they improve a bit the quality! My second wish is that people are more open to people who build with all kind of brands. There can't be enough bricks! | ||
