Bought these to use as cupboard lights. At first, they didn’t work the way I wanted because the light sensor would prevent them from going on. Even in a fairly dark room they would not go on. So, as another review suggested, I disabled the light sensor so it would go on even in light rooms when motion was detected. Except instead of breaking off the light sensor, I simply covered it with black electrical tape. Now they work great!

These, like other similar wireless LED lights, had one big flaw that made them useless for me. (And I think for some other people as well.) They are fine in total darkness, but if you want them to light up a dim, but not totally dark area, they won’t turn on because of the light sensor. That makes them not only useless as an auxiliary light source, but also when grouped — since if one is on the light sensor of the other(s) prevents them from turning on.

SOLUTION: Remove the light sensor. Please see the photos attached. Not actually that hard to do if you’re careful and don’t mind that it probably invalidates the warranty since you are essentially breaking part of it. Also be sure that’s what you want — it really will go on every time is senses motion, so be sure it’s inside a closet or other place where just passing by in the distance won’t set it off.

Photo 1: with the back plate removed to access the batteries, there are three small Phillips screws. Remove those and carefully (there are wires) separate the back section which holds the batteries and circuits from the front section which is the case and diffuser.
Photo 2: On the circuit board you will see two sensors. The larger one is the motion sensor so leave that alone. (the dome cover may fall off, don’t worry, it goes back on fine) the smaller sensor, seen here in the grip of the pliers, is the light sensor. Carefully so as not to damage the rest of the board, but with some force because it’s on a couple solid wires, just break off the light sensor.
Then just put everything back together.
Now you have a light that is motion sensitive but not light sensitive. Again, note that this will need to go somewhere that it won’t be constantly going on every time you pass unless that’s what you want. It works great for me inside a closet that has a door, and in an under stairs storage area that also has a door.

ALTERNATE SOLUTION: If you want brighter light and don’t mind spending considerably more, this Mr. Beams light is actually designed to allow you to easily defeat the light sensor. Pretty good for cheap lights. However, they don’t like to turn on if there is any other light around. It has to be pretty dark for these to activate. They also turn off way too fast if it doesn’t sense activity. I have them in my closet and and if I walk away for any amount of time they turn off and sometimes delay turning back on when I go back to the closet. But they are cheap and serve their purpose.

I wanted something I could put in the trunk area of my 2014 Impreza Sport as the one manufacturer dome light on the side was too dim. I put one light on the other side from the side dome light and one on the back door. They worked great and turn on every time I open the door in the dark and not when it is light out. One is brighter than the dome light that came with the car. I was disappointed that they didn’t have an on switch to use when there is some light then realized I just needed to hold my hand over it and pull my hand away to make it think it is dark and it senses my motion and the dark. I put the third light on the garage door opener. It works great. It lights up the garage enough to see where I am going, about like what a strong night light would.

These work awesome! I mounted them over the litter box for my cats so they have a little light when they do their thing. They go off after about 30 seconds of no motion which is great because it saves on battery! What’s nice is to have the light when I’m scooping too since the closet the box is in does not have a light. Just enough to see what I’m doing but not too bright to blind me when sitting next to it

They are magnetic. Excellent for night lights or emergency lights. We live in S. Florida and summer power outages are part of the southern charm. They work great, and bright but NOT blinding. We originally bought them as cargo light for 2005 Jeep. They are magnetic and come with 3M tape.

They do have a timer and are motion detecting, so it will turn off if there is no movement.

these are very easy to install and that’s a big plus; the light is not as bright as I thought it might be however, that’s not to say its not sufficient light; it lights the bathroom area just enough that the light doesn’t startle; the closet light works well enough but remember they don’t come on if there is other light! Overall, the lights are great use in areas like bathrooms and hallways at night

Great little device, I used three rechargeable aaa batteries. It has a magnet, and a double sided sticky foam for mounting. The base twists off, to change batteries. Solar sensor prevents light from coming on unless it is dark. Sensor is pretty good for motion, not too sensitive. Light stays on for about a minute. I used these n drawers, cupboards, closets and storage bins in an RV.
