I typically use a manual pair of hedge clippers. I am something of a “control-freak” so I really like the precision of the old-school hand-trimmer. However, this approach is time-consuming and somewhat physically straining. So, I finally gave in and tried this electric trimmer.

First, I was impressed at how maneuverable it is really is. Likewise, I wasn’t certain that I would be able to use this for a prolonged period (hedges surround two sides of our property). But it is not so weighty to be perceived as difficult to hold for a small person (like me).

Now, my biggest worries were set aside quickly. I was able to move slowly and precisely with this trimmer, making short work of a typically lengthy project. The look end up clean and tidy. Of course, it does warrant noting that I tend to these hedges frequently, so they just needed a trim … but I also believe that if someone were tackling a new home or helping a friend, that it could be used for more substantial clean-up.

This is the third product that we own in the “Beyond” line. I love that these are cordless! And, I love that the battery has a more longevity than you would think. Moreover, I especially love that the batteries are interchangeable. So you can take one from your drill and use it in your string trimmer!

To summarize: this is light enough and maneuverable enough that even a petite person (like me) can use it comfortably. Likewise, if you take your time, you are going to be proud of how sharp you can make your hedges look! And, finally, the battery allows you to stay out of the tangle of wires (and last longer than you might think).

I love this line. I love trimmer! Highly, highly recommended!

Our landscaper never came back after the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, so we needed to learn (quickly) how to care for several varieties of trees, bushes, etc.

I originally purchased manual hedge scissors that take several hours to trim the bushes and shrubs – and pretty much wipe me out afterwards. Getting to review the beyond by BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Hedge Trimmer Kit was a blessing!

It arrived mostly assembled, you just have to add the front guard and click in the battery. The battery arrived near empty so I had to charge it before use. It’s a different shape and voltage that my other Black & Decker products, so I won’t be able to interchange them. I’ll look into a spare battery…

Using the hedge trimmer was incredibly easy – it’s lightweight and does not take up a lot of your energy just aiming it and trimming. It’s basically a “point and shoot” yard tool that almost anyone can use. I was able to trim ALL of my landscape within an hour and it looked much better using this electric trimmer. I spent $40 on the manual pair of trimmers and this is just over twice that – but I saved so much time that it’s worth more than that to me!

I was going to purchase another battery for bigger jobs but the battery lasted the entire use and isn’t necessary. I have a relatively small yard so it may just be my situation.

Overall I really like the ease of use, convenience and simplicity of this trimmer – and I’m the envy of my neighbors!

Makes light work at shaping the hedges. This Electric hedger comes in very handy. I am able to shape our hedges and bushes in under 5 minutes. It cuts even and straight the first time every time. The battery is enough for me to do our whole yard without slowing down. I actually was able to get the hedges done and then use the same battery for the Black and Decker String Trimmer to get my yard completely done without having to recharge.

I also used this hedger to cut thin low lying branches. It has a nice safety feature that requires to hit two buttons at the same time. I don’t think my kids would be too interested in playing with yard tools but if they were it would be difficult for them to work. It is also great because you can simply remove the battery as well making it a safer option than gas powered ones.

I love that it doesn’t have a cord like the last one and how mobile it is. The gas ones I found were much heavier as well. The battery pack weighs as much as the cordless drill battery and doesn’t add much weight. My arms or hands didn’t get tired or fatigued. I think that how efficient it was also helped with that.

I wasn’t expecting it to be as easy to use and work as well as it does at that price point. I am pleasantly shocked and thankful at how much quicker it is to shape the hedges. It just takes a few swipes and you are done. It doesn’t get much easier!

This works well if you are trimming very thin hedges, about 1/8th of an inch or so, but once you get into something like 1/4 inch or above, it struggles or jams. I used this on some thorn bushes and it must have jammed 20 times in just a few minutes. It cannot cut multiple pieces that are 1/4 inch thick without jamming, then I have to pull on it and try to get them out and then start again. VERY annoying. My corded Black & Decker is over 10 years old and still cuts well, no problem with multiple branches much thicker than 1/4 inch.
It’s nice to have a cordless trimmer, and I was looking forward to being able to do a lot with it, but it has VERY limited use.
The other deal breaker, for me, is that it tends to throw pieces back at my face. I NEVER had that happen before, so it must be how this cuts. Maybe the blades are not sharp enough? I don’t know. I just know that it doesn’t get the job done the way my regular B&D does. Disappointed.
