Another winner from Bluetti! Best bang for your buck in this power range

By Mike 219 on May 6, 2021

UNBOXING

I just received and unpacked my Bluetti EB70 and, in usual Bluetti fashion, the packaging is an A+. The unit sits in a box with very dense foam and no movement inside. That box fits perfectly inside the shipping box so I’m very pleased with how Bluetti ships their products.

Upon unboxing, you’re met with the warranty information and manual as well as a box full of cables. Those include the AC charging brick which is pretty large, the 12V cable for use in your car, and the MC4 cable for connecting most solar panels.

FIT & FINISH

The mint green (teal?) color is kind of cool! Think Tiffany’s jewelry color. The plastic feels solid and not cheap. Love the way the handle integrates with the unit. It’s thick and sturdy enough to get a solid grip on the unit and falls flat when not in use.

It’s certainly noticeably heavy but when you get into this range of capacity, I am not surprised. It’s not at all taxing, perhaps thanks to the good handle design.

FEATURES

I’m a big fan of all the features. LiFePO4 battery chemistry is the future (or the present). I’ve DIYed a LiFePO4 battery and the lifetime specs are right on par. I’ve no doubt that this thing will last longer than I want to keep it before new tech comes out several years from now.

The screen is big and bright, showing the important notes – 5 bar battery indicator, input wattage, and output wattage. That’s really all I need to know.

There’s also no shortage of output ports!

AC
4 AC plugs

DC
1 12V 10A cigarette lighter
2 12V 10A barrel plugs (5521)
2 USB-C 100W PD (200W combined)
2 USB-A

Input
8mm barrel plug (DC7909)

PERFORMANCE

I also did some performance testing on it. The EB70 powered my heat gun on the low setting (rated at 700W) flawlessly and for 15+ minutes before I decided the test was a pass, reading around 675W the whole time. When I switched it to high, it did allow a surge for about 3 seconds before tripping the overload protection, as expected!

The wireless charging works great on both my Samsung Galaxy phone and iPhone 12 Pro. I don’t have 2 appliances/laptops that will push 100W USB C PD but I tested with my Dell laptop and it pushed the full 100W! I’ve never had any charger (portable or wall wort) do this. Pretty amazing.

COMPARISON TO BLUETTI AC50S

This isn’t a direct competitor to the EB70 but I have an AC50S so might as well compare. The EB70 is 8 lbs heavier than the AC50S at 21 lbs. It is 3 inches wider, 1 inch deeper, and 1 inch taller than it’s 200Wh little brother. It’s not that noticeable depending how you orient this.

My primary use is for car camping and I definitely do have the width to fit the bigger EB70. I won’t be mad at having an extra 200Wh and 400W-worth of inverter capacity at my disposal.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

I’m 100% thrilled with this purchase. As far as bang for your buck versus Jackery and Goal Zero as well as the fly-by-night brands, I’m not sure you can beat it right now. $500 (on sale) for 700+ Wh is probably the best deal you can get.

In typical Bluetti fashion, fit and finish is excellent, performance is as advertised, and I’m confident in their warranty/support if anything should arise. They keep a strong social media presence so they are always easy to reach and are very helpful. I liked my AC50S and it brought me back to Bluetti. With the EB70, I’m probably a customer for life!

Great Portable Solar Generator you can depend on!

By Michael OBrien on May 6, 2021

The Bluetti EB70 is an excellent medium size solar generator with a Lifepo4 battery which will last you a long time. So far I have tested it to charge my Super 73 S2 E-Bike, Onewheel XR Mobility Device, run my Iceco VL35 Fridge, charge my dji drones, cellphones, and my MSI Gaming Laptop. The generator has worked flawlessly and is truly portable power you can depend on that carries the Bluetti name. It is one of my favorite generators I own and I have many different brands and sizes. The wireless charging dock and light are also very handy.

Solid Solar Generator with a few quirks

By Sunjay Kumar on May 23, 2021

The Bluetti EB70 is the newest item in the Bluetti line-up. It offers a lot of features in a medium size package. The AC inverter is very efficient and I was able to pull about 90% of the stated capacity. I paired this with the new Bluetti SP200 – 200 watt foldable solar panels and they are a killer combo. With these panels I was able to fully charge the unit each day. I was able to reach about 160 watts mid-day.

What’s to love:
– 714wh battery capacity
– An efficient 700 watt pure sine wave AC inverter
– Two traditional USB charging ports
– Two 100 watt usb-c power delivery ports
– A flashlight
– Wireless cell phone charger
– Regulated 12v outputs (all of them!)
– Optional eco mode to then the unit off after 4 hours if drawing minimal power
– Rechargeable via solar panels, your car’s cigarette outlet, and AC adapter
– All cables and chargers are included (minus solar panels of course)

What’s less desirable
– The lights on AC and DC power buttons are very hard to see and can result in the unit being left on. They are also a but tricky to turn on versus just turning on the screen
– The included AC adapter has a fan in it which runs constantly, regardless of the unit charger or not. This will drive you crazy with the fan in the adapter and the fan in the EB70 running at the same time if you are in the room at the time. More of a reason to charge with solar!
– AC output is 110v which could upset some sensitive electronics such as devices. I observed stranger performance with fans and when trying to run a full sized refrigerator which didn’t like the voltage sag from 110v. However this design choice may have helped achieve 90% efficiency from the inverter.

Wish list:
– A dedicated power button for the unit
– Brighter LEDs on the AC and DC buttons
– Actual percentage charge on the screen
– Screen indicators for the AC and DC inverters being on
– A way to keep the screen on all the time
– A lantern on the back instead of a flashlight (like the AC50s)
– A silent AC adapter

If you are in the market for a solar generator, the EB70 is a really great option (even with the quirks). The lithium iron phosphate cells are safer and last more cycles compared to traditional lithium-ion (but weigh a bit more). The 714wh battery capacity and 700 watt inverter are a great combo. If you are looking for a solar panel to use, the Bluetti SP200 with the EB70 are the perfect pairing.
