If you don’t use a charcoal chimney to light charcoal, it’s time to start. Charcoal chimneys allow you to safely & conveniently light charcoal for a grill or smoker. Just crumple up some old newspaper & stick it in the space below the metal divider in the charcoal chimney & place the chimney on a charcoal grate on a grill or smoker. Then, load the area above the metal divider with your desired amount of charcoal. Use a lighter to light the newspaper through the large vent holes. Wait 10-20 Min (depending on the amount of charcoal) until most of the briquettes are partially covered in white ash & then your charcoal is ready to go! In comparison to the Weber grill of the same size, the Cuisinart vents are flimsy and have to be attached with screws…The Weber grill has them pre-attached and they are solid.
However, I like that the Cuisinart is so lightweight and the cooking surface is the perfect size for two people. I had the square Weber Go-Anywhere grill and it was too heavy since I had to lug it from the garage every time.
This seems to me like a temporary grill, but we will see how long it actually lasts.

Pulling it out of the box it shouted quality. Nice and heavy. The Grate Lifter worked as advertised. I was pleased with the purchase until it came time to install the base.
#1. White washers are supposed to have a sticky side to hold them on the base for the mounting of the base. They did not. No problem, I could snake them in when it came time to put the bolts in.
#2. I could not put the unit on the base like the diagram. I got it done by standing the unit on its top and working everything in place. Then, I turned it back over to complete assembly. No problem. Just a small speed bump.
#3. Then, I tried to put the wing nuts on the back bolts in the back of the stand. One of them only wanted to cross thread. Swell. I figured I must have messed up the threads while mounting the unit. Put that on hold for a moment.
#4. I managed to snake one wing nut bolt into place in the front but it didn’t want to go in. The other did not fit because the holes in the unit did not come close to lining up with the holes in the base.
Two choices. Put it in a box and send it back or get out my files to make it all fit. Files it was. I looked at the bolt mentioned in step #3 to find a huge burr on it. Poor quality and Cuisinart should get another supplier. I filed down the burr and in an abundance of caution ran a die tool over it. The wing nut now fits perfectly. Then I reamed out the slots in the base with a semi-round file. With the extra room, everything fits just fine.
I must say the quality of the base reflected poorly on an item that seems to be well made otherwise.
If you buy one, don’t be surprised if it takes some effort to mount the base. I give it a two because many other people have commented on the poor quality and one would expect Cuisinart to have fixed this by now. I didn’t give it a one because I decided to keep it.

Like others have said, the cooking grate WILL flip if you place too much pressure on one side (but this can be remedied by affixing some bolts around the lip to act as a shelf).
Just by looking at photos of other grills in this price range, you can see their shape allows for a superior distribution of charcoal and heat.
If you plan to use your grill more than once, spend the extra money.

It has gone up in price since I bought mine.. Took one star off cause the hindges for the lid should be more substantial.. The lid with that thick ceramic finish is heavy. Also I’ve never had issue with the air vents. I think they work pretty good. The temp gauge still accurate. We start the charcoal or brickets in weber chimney with starter blocks now. Wish I knew that trick 40 yrs ago. Ha
