These shelves are not complete garbage, but they are no where near the quality they claim.

First of all, the metal braces is clearly claimed to be “16-gauge”, which should be around 0.065 inches thick. I measured these to be 0.020 inches, less than 1/3 of the claimed thickness. That’s including the powder coat, so in reality we’re probably looking at 0.015 inches or less of actual metal.

The wood shelves measured in at 0.330 inches, just barely over 1/4″ thick of low-density particle board. You could visually see the wood bending with only about 100lbs resting on the shelf.

There is ZERO chance that the shelves will hold 800lbs. After some testing with known weights, I think storing more than 100lbs for any length of time would buckle the flimsy wood shelves.

I’m requesting a refund, but in all honesty unless they are willing to pay the return shipping it’s probably not worth sending back.

Bottom line: If you want cheap shelves to put a few light or medium-weight boxes on, go for it. But know what you are buying, and understand that they are not even close to being “heavy-duty” shelves.

Bought five of them for a large storage pantry. took a rubber mallet and a hammer and flathead screwdriver as the paint is so thick, the connections were hard to click together.. I wedged the screwdriver against the connector and pried it outward, then hammered the brackets into place. It was not too difficult and they are VERY sturdy. I covered the shelves with shelf paper as they are fiberboard.

This particular model comes WITHOUT the couplers needed to attach the short legs together to reach full height. There are couplers in different models (UR -185WGB, UR-245WGB etc.) I ASSUME they realized the design error, corrected it and are using AMAZON to selling off the flawed batch. Hopefully I will be able to purchase the couplers separately… but this is seriously inconvenient, holding up completing assembly and use of the shelves.
They MAY hold 4000 lbs in some very specific, limited distribution of weight (maybe with 3750lbs on the bottom shelf seated on the floor???) but I would not try it with anything I valued). I have real industrial shelves out side ( the kind they use in Home Depot stores. NOT what they sell, the ones they USE in the stores) they do not even claim to hold 4000 lbs so pretty sure this is a bogus claim.

It was shipped in a box with very minimal padding at the ends. The cardboard was common lightweight cardboard and not even reinforced or doubled. As a result, the wood shelves were slightly chewed up (cosmetic mostly that would not be visible when assembled).

As soon as I opened the box, I knew I hated it. The legs were flimsy, very light weight, and could easily be twisted. Even with the nice heavy coat of finish on them, they measured a mere .057 inch thick. The wood shelves were common particle board that was smooth on both sides. I expected hardened or industrial particle board for something claiming to be heavy duty. They measured slightly less than 3/8 of an inch and flexed easily as well. For something claiming to hold 800 pounds per shelf, I think these were woefully inadequate. The brackets that made this into a single shelving unit as show in the picture, had to be ordered separately for some reason – why?

I have a real hard time believing that the shelf would hold as much weight as stated! I thought I was getting something far more substantial. The only way I could use this and feel any surety around it, was if I attached it to a wall and reinforced it. I shouldn’t have to do that. For my needs, I need far better shelves. I’m guessing these thin particle boards would quickly deform under even modest weight. But I need a free standing and sturdy unit, so I am not going to waste my time even putting it together.

In my opinion these are absolutely not heavy duty, but light duty only.

Strong and built to last. I used to put two 40 gal tanks. Great! Can’t beat the price. One slight con is you will need another person to help. I really struggle putting together by myself. Just my opinion.

So we bought these for our small apartment, since we don’t have much cabinet space for cans. In order to get the height you have to stack the corner pieces, IT IS NOT ONE BIG PIECE. Couldn’t get the pieces to stay up without falling so we only used four courners. My wife used the extra pieces to go over our small dryer to make a shelf. One person could put together the lower half alone, however the upper half requires two people for sure. This item wasn’t entirely what we were expecting but it wasn’t a total let down since we found another use for the extra pieces.

I love these kinds of shelving units for garage/shed use. It’s easy to either set up as one tall unit or to separate and have them as shorter side by side units. The powdercoating on the metal is done well and there were no issues with fitment at all. As has been stated in the past the boards are a bit thin for really heavy items but for average storage they should be sufficient. It’s relatively easy to head to a big box store and ask them to cut you some heavy duty replacements if you need to hold more weight. I don’t really consider that an issue that would subtract from my rating because at the price this sells for I’m beyond happy with the performance.

Only thing I’d offer as a heads up… if you’re tight on space keep in mind the 36″ wide measurement is of the actual wood shelf itself. The frame from end to end measures more like 36.5″
