Falsely advertised, i have the jdm-050 controller and it doesn’t fit. It’s close but isn’t cut correctly.

This is sort of deceptive. It is a brushed look but it feels extremely smooth. If you have one of their “soft touch” front shells expect that sort of feel. Installation was a breeze. The original screws do fit, just thread them through before installation. Mine fit without any burrs or seams at the edges.
The only criticism I would have is for the inside cutouts for the led/usb portion. The cutout for the white thin plastic strip isn’t right and I had to leave that out. Leaving it in created a gap in the case because it wouldn’t close all the way. I just took it out, its not necessary for any function of the light bar (top or front) I transferred the sticker from my original shell (which was broken) to this new one.
When choosing the category, like picking the color and texture of your controller, not all of the models are the same! Make sure to browse the pictures for each category that displays JDM 040, JDM 050 AND JDM 055. Most of the DIFFERENT TYPES of shells under ExtremeRate don’t fit for the same model. For example, I pick this blue textured bottom shell that shows in the picture that JDM 050 AND JDM 055 is compatible with a green check mark. However, I browse the green textured one under the same seller that only fits JDM 040 which it’s says on the picture and doesn’t display JDM 050 and JDM 055. So be careful! Make sure to browse the pictures on each category under ExtremeRate and disassemble your controller to find the model number before purchase! Anyways, it fits great on mine!
This is going to be a similiar review to the Front Shell. But this is the Back Shell.
Theres something up with the seams, they are really noticeable. There was also discoloration so the shell would stick out. Basically, a decent size gap and its raised higher than the other shell.
This might not bother you but its really not a good feel when its in your hands. The seams do not line up and its due it being raised up when holding it.
Install isnt hard but it can be time consuming when testing it out with the original PS4 controller shells as well. Same issue with the seams.
Its too bad because its a really nice looking shell. I ended up returning both of them.
I wish this company would sell it as a set, and better quality control might have caught this. Who knows maybe i got a bad shell.
Im not going to bother exchanging, as the install is fairly easy BUT again install is time consuming if it doesnt fit corrrectly then packaging everything back up and putting original controller back together takes a bit of time. ( just know watch out for the 2 ribbon cables ).
Changed this along with installing aluminum buttons and thumbsticks. Didn’t seem to be warped like some injection molds can be due to uneven cooling(I deal with cast foam at work, seem it get bad). For a good install, remember first to reattach the light bar’s ribbon cable, then work it back on in reverse of how you got the first one off, making sure it all clicks back in to place. Then replace all screws loosely, reinspect for proper closure, then finish tightening screws. Did not come with light bar lens, so you are going to need that when you transfer the light bar. Again when placing the lens loose screw, make sure lens is secure on its pin(you’ll know it when you have to gently pry it off the one in the old case), then fully tighten. The grip feels good, solid, not tacky. My only issue was with the trigger buttons sticking occasionally when pressed for about the first week. This could have been a tolerance issue with the case and my aluminum aftermarket triggers, or a genuine tolerance issue with just the case itself. Your results may vary.

I purchased both the front and back shell sold by the same company so my review reflects my experience with both.
Modding controllers can be pretty nerve wracking but it’s absolutely doable. This shell in terms of quality was better than I expected and while it’s not real wood it’s a nice enough fake. I was surprised because the front and back shells are sold separately but the grain on both pieces still matches up really well.
Now for what I didn’t like and this may just be an issue with how I assembled. The sections where the two shells join on the grips where your palms rest aren’t flush and is a noticable defect when you’re playing. This is a pretty common issue around aftermarket shells so keep that in mind. The design of the PS4 controller itself doesn’t do this any favors as well. Not a huge complaint but I have a lot of sensory issues so that’s my problem. I would also make sure you have the right model controller to match with this shell. I tried digging through the reviews before purchase but I couldn’t find an accurate model number. The controller I was modding was a model CUH-ZCT2U when this shell seems like it was made for a CUH-ZCT1U (if I have that right). This may be the real reason the shells didn’t fit totally flush but again that’s my fault. The main difference between the 2U and the 1U is that the rubber padding on the PS button for the 2U controllers is held in place by two pegs much like the other buttons but the 1U just has the padding stretched over the PS button housing. This may sound like nonsense but if you pull apart a PS4 controller you’ll see what I mean. Again this isn’t a big issue and I was able to make it work regardless but it’s something to keep in mind.
10/10 would definitely recommend. Will likely buy another shell for my personal controller as this one was for a Christmas gift.

Id have to say that I am very happy with this. I bought two sets from this company and everything fits perfect the grips aren’t sticky and weird they are smooth yet supply you with the extra needed grip. They don’t get nasty or dirty. I’ve bought several things from this company and they all work and fit just as the Sony name products fit stock. Absolute 5 stars
