Handmade Sword – Tactical Manganese Steel Samurai Katana and Wakizashi Sword, Manganese Steel, Wood Scabbard Covered with Fiberglass, Black

I got a dud… I already own a Honshu (united Cutlery) Wakizashi, which is essentially the same sword (different brand name from same company), which is fairly durable and fun. I got this to compliment it to make a Tactical Daisho. This sword came on time and the packing was incredible, it really was the best way possible to pack and ship a sword. There was no chance of damage from shipping!

However, upon inspection, the Plastic Handle Scales felt loose, it took only a few seconds to find that the handle scales were never epoxied or otherwise firmly attached. I was able to pry it apart enough to fit a pop sickle stick between the plastic scale and the sword tang. It could EASILY be pried off the sword with just a little effort. Rather than risk breaking this sword or the handle I immediately put it back in the packaging, printed a label and sent it off for a full refund.

I am very disappointed, but should have known better since this sword was not advertised with a maker name (it’s made by Munetoshi as the below review specifies).

I understand I didn’t spend hundreds of dollars on a quality heirloom sword, but even a 30 machete comes with better quality control than this.

Otherwise, The blade was fairly well polished and finished, and the saya was pretty tight. I would have given it 2 stars, but I wouldn’t recommend this sword to anyone in it’s current condition… You may get one that isn’t defective, but IMHO a TACTICAL Katana is meant to be designed to be a lot more reliable than this.

I will be spending my money on something else instead.

An above average katana that’s actually folded steel and is a single piece from tip to tail; no welding here. The Damascus pattern is clearly visible as the blade isn’t fully polished and has more of a semi-gloss look to it. It’s attractive but who knows if it actually adds to the durability. The hamon (tempering line) is obvious if not a bit regular but at least it has one and doesn’t detract from the overall look. The blade is functionally sharp; it did not cut paper like a razor but would cut limbs and vegetables alike with ease. Looks aside, the assembly is excellent. The mekugi (handle pins) were tightly fixed although the tsuba (hand guard) had a little bit of rotational play. Thicker seppa (brass spacers) would remedy this but it doesn’t effect function. There are no other rattles or looseness otherwise: tight handle and tight handle wrapping. The saya (sheath) is well made and has a nice finish that has depth. All in all I’d say this is a nice katana for those looking to have a conversation piece on display or for someone that wants a functional katana that isn’t a cheap, welded piece of junk.

I really like this sword, not only is it slick looking it seems entirely functional as a tool or weapon just in case.

Mine came sharp unlike a few swords I’ve gotten in the past which I was pleasantly surprised with. It’s nice and light enough for me to use with one hand but the handle is definitely long enough to swing with both hands.

I’ve cut a bottle with it so far but I plan on cutting other things like bamboo and watermelons with it in the future. So far I love it enough to give it 5 stars before I put it to the test for real.

Been searching for a SHTF reasonably priced and quality made short sword. This fits the requirements; good quality, excellent balance, great feel in the hand, great handles, and solidly made. Mine arrived with a broken saya (scabbard) and when notified the company mailed out another immediately. Note, this was not because of them but rather damage in shipping. I emailed pictures and they instantly made it right. Great sword, great customer service, and fast shipping!

For the price range, I am happy with the purchase. The layered patterns in the steel are beautiful, the marks of the differential hardening apparent(I have not durability tested it yet). The feel is adequate, though the cotton wrap over the plastic handle is as expected uninspiring. The blade has an edge but it did NOT arrive sharp. Also not surprising given the price range. I have not disassembled this so simply hope it is true “battle ready”. Scabbard is wood and sword does not set in with a “click”. Again, all shortcomings are not unexpected so far. And the blade itself is impressive.

I’ve been searching for the Cas Hanwei tactical wakizashi for a while now and I’ve found out directly from the company that they no longer make it, and never will again, so I had to settle for finding something similar. I have the CH tactical katana, so I wanted something to match. This is fairly close. The handle is a little thicker than the CH, but it’s still a nice feel. It’s about the same thickness of a traditional wakizashi handle. One thing I will note is that the description says fiberglass scabbard, and it is NOT fiberglass. It may have some fiberglass coating on it, but the inside is definitely wood. I took a star away for that alone. Not only is it not as good as fiberglass, like the CH, they’re just straight up lying about it, and that’s not cool. It does come fairly sharp out of the box. Not razor sharp, but you don’t want a sword to be razor sharp. It passes the paper cutting test though. Bottom line is that if you’re looking for a clone of a Cas Hanwei tactical wakizashi, I don’t think you’re going to do much better than this

Excellent quality for the price! Not 100% “authentic” as a traditional sword of its design, but it will make you feel like a ninja during the upcoming zombie apocalypse (if that’s what you are into). Mine will stay tucked nicely in my bug out bag.

This handmade sword arrived quickly and was packaged very nicely. I appreciated that sword and scabbard were nicely wrapped in a protective cloth sheath, fabric resembling silk.
I was excited to pull the blade and examine the workmanship. While I have not used the blade for anything yet, it appears to be a very well-built, solid addition to any functional collection. I only appreciate showing something that not only looks good, but is actually useable in the real world.
