Here are a couple of helpful tips for anybody stumbling through the process of familiarizing themselves with this type of enterprise server hardware and preparing the server for installing the chosen server operating system/vm host operating system for the first time: Googling “Dell Support for PowerEdge R710” links you to a page on Dell’s website with all the manuals, drivers, and other information for this particular server model. Also, Dell’s website knowledge base has a very helpful article entitled, “Dell Driver and Firmware Update Strategies for Server Storage and Networking Systems” which outlines the various ways you can go about obtaining the necessary drivers, firmware updates, and management tools to successfully set up and manage the server. Finally, the one driver which took me forever to locate for proper monitor display via the serial port is called, “Dell Update Package: G200eW Video Controller, 4.00.01.004, 1.0”. The default driver which Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard installed caused every monitor I tried to display at such a low resolution that I literally couldn’t click on certain needed icons for setup on the GUI because they were located outside of the display.
Hope this helps and good luck.
