Giving three stars for how they arrived. One has been used or at minimum rode in the back of a truck for a few weeks. The edge on them doesn’t match. Very strange. I don’t think any of this will effect operation but when spending $20 on a wedge I kinda expected them to be in better shape. I will update review based on performance this weekend. Will be splitting some maple trunks which should break em in.
This is a fantastic felling wedge. If you need to drop a tree, and you need to make sure it comes down in the right spot, this is what you need. A few cuts, and smack this guy in to finish the job.
It’s a good length and pitch. If you’re working on very wide trees, you might need something longer, but for the average tree this is more than enough.
It’s strong, and it takes a lot of abuse. The blade on the tip is great for when you find you need to cut deeper, but you already started driving the wedge.
Overall a great wedge.
This splitting wedge works perfectly. It is longer than some others I have used which is a good thing. The long taper makes it easier to get the split started. It takes sledge hammer blows like a champ. When you strike it, little shards of metal don’t go flying off in every direction. I have experienced that problem with other wedges. This one is a keeper.
I have the Hooyman long axe and figured this would be a nice addition for splitting bigger logs.
What I Like:
Carbon steel construction – 5 lbs of it to be precise – should last a lifetime.
Can insert into a crack in the log or start with a hammer or the back end of the axe head.
A simple tool that works well.
This is super heavy & works well. My husband split a big pile of wood this afternoon with it & had no problems. It was easy to use & easy to get the split started with this wedge.
