HP released a firmware that sabotages third party ink cartridges. It had a time delay so everyone was sure to upgrade before the bomb exploded, ensuring the warning would come too late. The firmware was released in March 2016 but was designed not to “explode” until Sept 2016.
Anti-competitive? You bet. Long time HP customer gone forever? You bet.

They finally admitted to sabotaging third party ink cartridges in late Sept in an apology letter.

This printer is great…if you enjoy spending your time replacing ink cartridges and cleaning printheads repeatedly. It was easy to install, and that the last thing easy about using it. It is constantly grabbing my attention for low ink, and when that happens, it will not print correctly…only blobs of certain colors of ink or black text partially prints (with no warning that there is a print problem going on). I am a huge fan of HP printers, but this ink-vampire-masquerading-as-an all in one machine has me jumping ship to something else. To say I am disappointed as a loyal HP customer is a tremendous understatement. I am trashing this printer and going in search of one that functions correctly and dependably.

I have used several HP printers in the past, and I have been very pleased overall. This printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 6968) is no exception. The manufacturer box arrived packed in a larger Amazon box for shipping, which was nice as sometimes larger items come with a shipping label stuck on the manufacturer’s box which usually arrives dented or banged up. This is a decent size printer and a little heavy, but it is definitely appropriate for home or small office use. The box states that it uses about 50% of the ink required by comparable printers out on the market. Based on my experience, it does seem to make economical use of each cartridge—although I cannot really determine if it quite leaves up to the 50% mark.

As with most home printers, this model is an all-in-one with scan, copy, and fax functions. It is also wireless enabled so you can print from a smartphone or tablet. I found this particular printer to have a fairly easy and intuitive Wi-Fi setup process. Oftentimes, it is time consuming and somewhat annoying having to get the network details entered, but the data entry steps on this printer are actually pretty easy.

The printer has a color touchscreen and automatic two-sided printing. Both of these features make this model efficient and productive to use, and these are functions that I usually look for in any printer I get. The biggest negative—which is also an issue with many other printers on the market—is that its 35-page document feeder only loads 1/4 to 1/3 of a ream of paper. That said, other that have to load more paper fairly often, I like this printer because it uses less ink and prints very good and clear pictures (in addition to documents and text). Overall, a good unit worth recommending.

Perhaps this is my unique experience, but unit was unpacked, set up, connected, and ink (privided with printer) installed as per manufacturers directions. Powered up, and immediately got a paper jam message that I am unable to clear. Followed instructions on printer – no progres. Went to HP Site, followed instructions – no progress. Very frustrating

I Have Printed About 100 Pages Using The Ink That Came With The Printer. Not Bad For Partially Filled Cartridges.

* Plug it in in, the Printer Touchscreen Prompts. I Opened a webpage That Popped Up On my computer and the Printer Guided Me Through Setup. At This point, I Already Liked It.
* Went Back-And-Forth From The Printer To The Computer Three Or Four Times Doing The Initial Set Up. Just Click/Click On Prompts.
* I Stored the Email Address for the Printer into phone, iPad, and other mobile devices.
** NOTE: Secured Network’s Must Enter Password, Into Printer, Via Touch-Screen. This Finds Your Devices.
* The Printer’s email address (Provided With Printer) is used to send printing instructions from Any Mobile Device. Convenient.

I’ve had this product since October 16, and it is broken now. It says in the window that it has a paper jam. It doesn’t have a paper jam. I followed the directions to clear the jam then it said the printer wasn’t shut off properly. The printer was shut down correctly. Now it’s broken and I just bought new ink. I’m a writer and have another business where I need a printer. WHAT WILL I DO? GO BUY ANOTHER PRINTER, HOWEVER, IT WON’T BE A HP!!!!!
