Lenox 65-Piece French Perle Flatware Set

I was a little hesitant ordering flatware without picking it up to feel the weight and balance, but the price was so good, and I really liked the pattern so decided to take a chance. It was through other peoples reviews that I decided this might work. It did. I love them, they have the heft and the balance of really good utensils. They came right on time as promised, wrapped well and in great shape.

I had one requirement when I looked for new silverware. I wanted 18/10 stainless steel. I have an Oneida 18/10 set that has been in daily use for 30 years. It wouldn’t be confused with brand new, but it still has a bright shiny surface.

In short: Stainless steel silverware generally has 18% chromium. That’s the 18 in the 18/10, 18/8 and 18/0 designations. Nickel is added for corrosion resistance. That’s the 10, 8 or 0 after the slash. Stainless silverware with zero nickel added loses its luster after a couple years. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just won’t have the shiny polish anymore. Think of how most restaurant silverware does not have the new-silverware luster.

This set is 18/10, meaning it has at least 10% nickel. High-end 18/10 silverware has more than 10%. 18/10 costs more, but it will stay beautifully shiny for decades.

I have only one complaint about my new Lenox French Perle silverware. It spots in the dishwasher. I have no idea why. I use a rinse agent in the dishwasher and my old Oneida set doesn’t spot. But there you go. This isn’t a biggy for me, and I otherwise like this set.

Other things to note: This silverware is “continental” size, bigger than is usual for American sets. The dinner knife is 9 ¼” long. The larger dinner fork is 8 ¼”.

The individual pieces also weigh slightly more, as you’d expect. In particular, the knife handle is heftier. My husband loves this. For comparison, using a kitchen scale, one Oneida dinner knife weights 2.35 ounces and a French Perle knife weighs 5.45 ounces.

The box states that the French Perle set is “American by Design”. This is true, but it is manufactured in Vietnam. Lenox offers a Breakage Replacement Program. If a silverware piece breaks from “normal use”, Lenox offers a replacement “provided one is available” for 50% off.

Beautiful! I was a concerned that they would be too fancy, but they somehow fit for both a “having friends over dinner” as well for everyday.

The butterkife is heavy, but the other pieces are light but substantial.

I washed them in a hi-temp diahwasher on sanitize and they still shine (just use a bit of water to wipe off any dullness caused by water spots)

This set is WONDERFUL! I have had it for almost 7 months, use it everyday. Has retained its’ like new appearance, despite almost daily dishwasher washing. It is durable, makes a nice table setting. I still marvel at how nice it is…and regret not investing in it sooner. You will NOT BE SORRY!!

This flatware set is elegant enough to entertain royalty. The weight in hand feels perfect. I would have expected to pay a lot more for this quality. It keeps a beautiful shine. The sizes of the pieces are exceptional, not the minuscule sizes of atypical flatware. You can use it for everyday dinners or for more formal occasions. You definitely won’t be disappointed in this purchase. I Love It! The bonus serving pieces are perfect as well.

This silverware has a good weight in your hand. I hand wash it, as I don’t have a dishwasher, so I can’t speak for how it would hold up there. It also is both casual and elegant.

Okay, I finally decided to find the lost spoons and forks that I had been missing in my 24 piece set. I absolutely loved my original Hampton set, but since it is no longer being made I would have been forced to pay an exorbitant amount to replace the items I was missing! Dang kids, losing all my silverware!! Now that they are all finally leaving home we spent time trying to find a replacement that would feel like the same weight and be durable. Looking into the Hampton items, found out that they are just not made the same that they had been in the past! So, this brings me to the Lenox set……I was very excited to try these out as they had great reviews and me my standard of being a heavy silverware set. The only gripe I have with this set, is that the large spoon is not as large as the one I had before. Seriously, it is a small gripe as the set is beautiful and seems to hold up well through use and the dishwasher. It is shiny as well as heavy and looks great at the dining room table!
