#2,696 in Cell Phones & Accessories (See Top 100 in Cell Phones & Accessories)
â¢Case is much more slim than many of the otter box options out there
â¢Phone is very well protected from the elements
â¢Case is light weight
â¢audio has drastically improved over earlier models of these cases, no complaints from others during phone calls
â¢while the case is slim front to back, it’s still pretty large as far as height and width, however seems pretty average for these types of cases
â¢charging port opening could be slightly larger to allow larger chargers to fit
â¢because of built in plastic screen protector, you may notice a rainbow effect on your screen when screen is off
â¢volume and lock/wake switches are difficult to press
Overall, out of all the rugged type cases I’ve had through the years, this is by far my favorite and I’d recommend to anyone looking for this type of case.
Now for the more detailed portion of the review. The case comes in simple to open packaging, and contains the case, a screen cleaning cloth, a “key” (just a plastic tab) to open case, two Lifeproof stickers, and warranty information. Instructions state to begin by locking case together (without phone in case, and submerge it under water for 30 minutes to verify it is water tight. (If not, contact lifeproof for further information). If case is still dry inside after water test, the you can proceed to the next step. Remove any screen protectors that may be on your phone before installing. Wipe phone screen clean with provided cloth, and insert phone into front of case, (bottom of phone first, then top). Once you have done this, you want to attach back plate and squeeze firmly all the way around to insure case is perfectly closed and water tight, now close charging port cover and you’re all set! Aside from the water test, installation takes all of about 2 minutes (most of this time was spent getting every last speck of dust off of my screen). The built in screen protector has no note-worthy difference in feel from the actual glass screen of the phone. The screen protector does somewhat diminish the clarity of the screen but only ever so slightly, nothing I would consider to be an issue. The lock/wake and volume buttons are rather difficult to use with the case on, but I do expect that when it comes to any case that will cover them. Especially when you’re in the market for an “everything proof” case. The case is extremely light weight, and in my opinion makes no noticeable weight change in your device. The case feels secure in my hand, however if you have small hands, it may make you feel slightly less secure about one handed use, however with this case, as long as you’re not dropping your phone from the 10th story of your office building, your phone should be absolutely fine even if you do drop it. The portion of the case that covers the vibrate switch, works with a lever type mechanism, which means that the direction of your switch will be reversed from normal, which took me only a second to get used to. To be more detailed on this, I’ll explain what I mean by reversed. Normally when you push the vibrate switch towards the rear of the phone, it switches to vibrate. However with the lever type mechanism, now if you push the vibrate switch towards the rear of phone, it will turn sound on, and if you pull the switch towards the face of the phone, it will activate vibrate. For me this is isn’t a problem though, it only takes a moment to get used to. I ordered the dark grey/neon green case and absolutely love the design. Most rugged cases (in my opinion) aren’t very aesthetically pleasing, however this one, (at least in this color combo) is very aesthetically pleasing. I’d gladly recommend this case for anyone looking to protect their phone but still have a nice look to their device, and anyone looking for a rugged case that doesn’t turn your iPhone into the size of an iPad. Great buy, definitely worth the money!

Not everyone seems to be experiencing this issue, so it very well could be a quality control problem, in which case they definitely shouldn’t be charging almost $100 for this case. Constantly carrying around headphones or having it hooked up to a bluetooth device is not always an option. I hope they find a fix for this.

I mainly purchased the case so I could take it into the ocean and take photos of people without worrying about waves splashing into the vulnerable charging port/speakers of the phone. I also wanted to feel comfortable taking those cool half-underwater-half-above-water shots you see around. I did not intend on submerging the phone completely and/or holding it underwater for extended periods of time.
For my purposes (described above) the case worked great. There was no water damage whatsoever to my phone and it took some great shots. Some reviewers were correct in that your touch screen becomes very difficult to use, but it still is somewhat functional (for instance, I could still tap the camera icon and access it fine). I was also able to press the snapshot button on the touchscreen here and there, but I relied mostly on the side volume buttons to take photos more quickly.
I’ve included a photo in this review that shows the quality and how comfortable i felt being in the ocean taking those photos.
I also have not had an issue where people cannot hear me on speakerphone. I’ve used this feature multiple times and people could hear me clearly.
