Designed with durable, weather-resistant components, the XTernal12 is buried underground with only the vent peaking from the surface. Installation is relatively simple, but considerations should be taken on placements and wire run.
For optimal performance, connect the XTernal12 series subwoofer to a mono subwoofer amplifier like the SMP500 and combine it with our landscape satellite speakers. Additional system configurations can be created for up to eight pairs of speakers using multi-channel amplifiers and/or series-parallel wiring, meaning you get rich audio with clear, deep bass every time you step outside. The XTernal12 is also ideal for theme parks, shopping malls, restaurants, resorts, gardens and other outdoor spaces where bass can enhance the audio experience.
For optimal performance, place the subwoofer within 20 feet of the general listening area. To blend the unit in with your outdoor environment, place it near landscape lighting, water fountains, open planters, or swimming pools. Having gone through a few other options for outdoor subwoofers, I was skeptical about trying another one out, especially without seeing any Amazon reviews. But I did take a chance and I will admit that I’m more than impressed. I have it tucked away in the middle of my new double pergola patio and have it paired up with a bridged Behringer A800 Power Amplifier. This speaker does take a fair amount of power to really give it some volume and headroom.
I’ll also say that it is well put together, hefty, and a bit bigger than I had imagined. (Don’t you love reviews like this – as if the dimensions aren’t provided in the description! LOL!!)
A few other items to note – sitting it on the ground or hard surface is recommended in order to get the best response from this subwoofer. That does cause it to vibrate and buzz a little from the plastic legs – so I added some 1 1/4″ isolation feet (1.25″ Platinum Silicone Hemisphere Bumper, Non-Skid Isolation Feet with Adhesive) to the bottom of each of the four “corners” – and it solved that problem right away.
I have a set of Definitive Technology AW6500 speakers and a set of Polk Audio Atrium 6 outdoor speakers that get played through my Sonos Amp (with this subwoofer getting a 70-80 hz direct subwoofer out crossover to the dedicated amp) and it more than rocks my backyard with clear sound.
In all – it is a great low-end additional to my outdoor space and I couldn’t be happier. My friends know me – “you can never have too many subwoofers” and for the price and performance of this one, I’m thrilled to now take that mantra outdoors.

Iâm powering with 800 watts. It sounds great. I wish they offered in a bigger sub. It fills in the low end while pairing perfectly with my Klipsch AW 650âs.
