Please do not buy this grate if you actually use your fireplace for fires. We live in the Mid Atlantic area and it has been a particularly cold winter season. We used this grate 4 times. As you can see from the pictures, it completely burned through. What you can’t see is that it warped forward so that the wood was falling forward. Also, it gave off a bad aroma during all burnings. Unlike any other grate we have used in the past. This is not a product to purchase if you are trying to heat your house. It would be quite useful for decorative fireplaces.

I selected a Rocky Mountain Goods Fireplace Grate based on its specifications and the reviews of owners. My previous “bargain priced” steel grate did not hold up well, with several bars sagging and ultimately breaking off. When I inspected the grate that I purchased from Rocky Mountain Goods, I saw that the bars were noticeably heavier, with high quality welds. It also contains a screen to prevent embers from prematurely falling to the floor of the fireplace, which allows more heat to be transmitted. This fact I confirmed after my initial use of the product.
All in all, I am very satisfied with my Rocky Mountains Goods Fireplace Grate!
I guess I should have considered some of the other reviews better. The grate arrived quickly and seems to be well made. There was no assembly required.
The problem is the measurements state 27″ My warning to you: the actual base of the grate for placing firewood is more like 22″ wide. It is much smaller than it seems. The 27″ is from the length of the rear legs that are 27″ apart. Unfortunately this is not the width of the base.
I probably will keep it since we don’t use our fireplace that often and it will definitely limit the amount of wood we can place on the grate at one time. Overall I am pretty disappointed that the grate is very small.
lasted 26 fires 26 days and it is done. this is what is left of this product after 26 days. this is the poor quality product they make and sell.
As odd as it may sound, I actually did a lot of research (my girlfriend would say WAY too much) for a fireplace grate that would suit my particular application. I even drew up a computer-aided drawing of my fireplace footprint and the dimensions of the prospective grates I considered for purchase. I eventually winnowed my choice down to the Rocky Mountain grate, based upon a good firebox fit and in consideration of its positive reviews. And taking into account multiple inducements within those reviews, I elected to obtain a grate made of cast iron rather than steel. I have not been sorry. It is performing well. Especially like how the screen at the bottom retains the embers for a longer, more steady burning and efficient fire.
Product looks great and sturdy however the coating on it has already burnt off and I’ve only used it for 3 small fires. The grate doesn’t allow for the accumulation of wood coals which are essential to have a long burning fire or heat after the fire has died down which also assist in starting the next fire. The product does what it says and does allow for more efficient burning however the wood burns from the top instead of heating from the bottom therefore you are using more wood and the produced heat is not as great as it would be if wood coals were allowed to accumulate (even on the grate) itself which would allow the wood to heat from the bottom up.

I procrastinated buying a fireplace grate for a while. Then…temperatures dropped below freezing & I realized I needed to utilize the fireplace. I searched endlessly for a fireplace grate & found this one to be at the top of my list with customer reviews to match. This size grate is the ideal size for my fireplace, however, if your fireplace can accommodate a larger fire then I would not recommend this grate. The size of my fireplace is perfect for this grate & I have utiized my fireplace every night since delivered ððð¼ Would 100% recommend for the appropriate sized fire.

We needed a new grate for the fireplace and someone suggested one with an ember retainer would be better than the standard one we had and boy was that right! I can definitely tell a difference in how long the fires last now! Good quality grate without breaking the bank!
