Bottom line: If you have a small lawn that is already well kept, these tools should be great to continue maintaining your lawn. Electric is great for less noise and simple operation/maintenance… on the other hand, if you have a larger yard and/or a lawn that needs a lot of clean up work, these tools are probably not for you!
I live in Florida and have a small front and back st. augustine lawn. My lawn is already well kept, but I wanted to try these tools to replace my hard starting, and loud string trimmer. The pole saw feature was a bonus to help me trim the palm tree in my front yard.
After using these tools a little while now, here are my thoughts…
– electric – low maintenance, no gas, no noise, easy operation
– one pole/one battery, no cord for three tools – less storage
– decent quality of manufacturing for the price
– gets job done well on small yards that are already well kept
– extendable pole very nice feature along with pivot trimmer head
– chainsaw works well enough to get the job done!
– brushed motors do not have a whole lot of power (but remember how much you paid!!)
– trimmer head only has one cutting line – I was assuming there were 2 cutting lines, but it only has 1!
– really cheap trimmer line out of the box (but this is true with any string trimmer)
– chain saw drive cover area easily gets clogged, but relatively easy to clean out.
– string trimmer not good at clearing ground or edging overgrown lines
– I don’t like how the string trimmer lets string out every time you let off the throttle… it has an automatic line length trimmer, but i just end up wasting line every time i let off the throttle
I used the trimmer to edge my yard. Areas that were already well edged, cleaned up very nice. Areas that were overgrown, did not clean up well. But, because it is cheap to begin with, I actually used the chainsaw to create a fresh edge (lol) then came back with the trimmer!
I used the chain saw on my palm tree and it made quick work of about 30 palm branches.
I was able to edge and clean up my entire front and back yard on one battery charge. And, I was easily able to trim my tree on one charge.
I would say the charge lasted me about 45 mins at least on one charge, but of course this depends on the tool you are using and how much you have the throttle squeezed during that time!
I will certainly be checking out Sun Joe products again to consider more electric tools in the future. You just have to know your needs and what you are buying!
