TACKLIFE Cordless Grass Shear, Hedge Trimmer, 2-in-1 Mini Handheld Shrubber Trimmer, 8V-1250RPM
This trimmer is for small hedging jobs in the yard. It’s not commercial or anything like that. It does a good job cutting small branches & evening out bush tops. This is not for large thick tree branches! It holds a full power charge for around 50 minutes from my testing. It took 2.5 hours to fully recharge from a dead battery. It’s easy to grip & maneuver. It’s not heavy. A woman could easily use it. Overall using it for its intended purpose, this trimmer does what it claims to do. I do recommend it. 5 stars!
This trimmer is in league with over a dozen other no-name trimmers on Amazon that sell for 1/2 the price of famous name trimmers that DON’T include their batteries (“Tool Only” as they say). With the cost of battery and charger for the famous name, this brand is 1/4 the price. And it works great. Very sharp. The handle candle can bend 15 or 30 degrees to make trimming easier while you are bending down to cut the grass. There is a safety key where the machine won’t operate without it being inserted. It is comfortable to use. The grass (short) shears will handle all lawn weeds over my entire property on one charge. I did not test the hedge (long) shears, though it is clear from their short size, the small battery, and the instructions, that they are made for “small shrubs.” That means they will only cut fresh growth, not the woody growth on regular privet hedges. Think a small, stand-alone boxwood more than a real hedge. The same small battery that operates the grass shears operates the longer hedge shears.
Which brings me to my deeper analysis. I would rather pay 2x the price for the pro shears to the battery system I already own. Even the famous name batteries die in 3 to 5 years. This one will too. But those can be replaced easily. Buy 1 or 2 batteries for all the tools you already own, including the grass shears. And they are much larger, more powerful, and hold a charge much, much longer than this type of “disposable” product. And it is disposable, because at the end of life, when the battery dies, you have to throw it out. Until then, though, it is OK. Convenient and way cheaper than a gardener!
When we sold our home where we did our own yard work, and moved into a rental where yard work was included, we gave away most of our tools. This included a corded hedge trimmer. I’m very picky when it comes to keeping a yard and plants looking nice, and sometimes the yard people come through and do a hit-or-miss type job.
So, I often get out and tidy up bushes that didn’t get trimmed very well, and have been using clippers. When I found this trimmer set, I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did.
1. It’s cordless, which I love. The battery charges up pretty quickly and, so far, it has worked well for a fairly long duration of trimming.
2. The trimmer pieces slip in and out very easily.
3. The grass trimmer works extremely well.
4. The hedge trimmer was a big surprise. When I first saw it, I really had my doubts about it, but it works great. However, this is not a heavy-duty trimmer, so I wouldn’t try it on anything that has thick branches, or it might break.
5. You don’t have to hold a button down while trimming. However, each time you stop, you do have to engage it, but it’s not that hard.
6. It’s lightweight and fairly comfortable to hold. These are both important since I don’t have that much hand strength any more.
1. For the grass trimmer, I would love to be able to attach it to a long handle. It hurts my back to bend over for any length of time, so I can’t use it for more than a few minutes before I have to stop for a little while.
Overall, I really love this set, and I hope it lasts a long time. I highly recommend this.
This is a great item for a specific job. There isn’t enough power to look around your yard and say, “Gee– I can do this and this and this now that I have this great tool!” And, it IS a great tool, but you only have about an hour battery life before it needs to be recharged– so you have to work quickly and prioritize. It takes about two hours to recharge.
But, while you have the power, it makes trimming and shearing really easy. It makes edging near a stone fence easy (though an edger with a handle is easier for large areas, this is better for small areas you can’t really get to with the large area.
We have a corded large hedge trimmer, and we still will be using that for most of the bushes, since it doesn’t run out of charge, even though it’s a pain to also have to bring out the big extension cord. We can get everything done and don’t have to worry about running out of power. This little hedger is perfect for other times. And, for finish work.
Really happy with it, but it’s an add-on tool– something to get in addition to the basics. Recommended for convenience, definitely.
I love everything about this system- except it is limited in it’s cutting performance. It charges well and the battery holds a charge for about 30 to 45 mins of cutting. The handle is adjustable and very comfortable to use. The safety system is effective without hampering practical usage. The 2 different heads are sharp and easy to change, and are surprisingly well built. Charge time is about 2 hours and the charger is included. It will easily cut grass and small weeds. Once you get into Woody stems this becomes useless. I would say that full grown goldenrod stalks are about the best this will manage. First year growth on my yew bushes are cut pretty easily but beyond that it jams and won’t cut through the them. Great to use near tender bushes where a conventional string trimmer is to aggressive , but beyond that it is just not powerful enough.
