THE NATURAL GAS MODEL DOES COME WITH THE 3/8″ QUICK DISCONNECT ALREADY!. I didn’t find any mention of the 3/8″ quick disconnect included in the package, even on the Weber manual and user guide nor on any reviews I’ve seen (since most grills are LP anyways). I already purchased separately a quick disconnect fitting for ~15 dollars…
All I needed to hook up the grill to the 1/2″ gas outlet (that already had a shut off valve) were 1/2″ nipple, 1/2″ to 3/8″ reducer fitting, 3/8″ nipple (and yellow teflon tape), since the quick disconnect was included in the grill package.
just two minor complaints (not worth deducting any stars) that I have so far are:
1. I wish the manual or user guide provided online would clearly state what fitting is already included – i.e. the 3/8″ quick disconnect.
2. I wish the casters had leveling feature like some other brands do. my covered patio is a little decline away from the house to drain water away from the hosue, and the grill is tilting to one side as it sits – will need to stick something underneath to level the grill.
I have a couple of friends who own Weber grills and they swear by them. My wife planned a large-ish get together which saw me trying to BBQ chicken and burgers for about 15 adults & kids and I wondered how I was going to accomplish that on our 22 in kettle so I decided to start looking for grills again.
Being kind of a cheapskate, dropping the coin for this grill was a tough swallow but with the testimonies of awesomeness from friends and all the great reviews I’ve read, I took the bait.
This grill has put such a smile on my face and the sense of grilling adventure has returned to me, I love outdoor cooking and I’ll do it every chance I get. The Weber Genesis II is and does everything it claims, from the consistent heating, controlled flare ups … I like a little flare, I believe it adds a flavor character though I don’t have proof of it, looks cool too ;). I don’t need to babysit this grill. Preheat it, place your food, close the lid, maybe adjust your temps, and let er’ do its thing.
I didn’t get the iGrill option because I already own a remote thermometer.
I was preconditioned to worry about food placement, I wasn’t confident that a 3 burner would provide enough grilling surface for the amount of food I was preparing, but those fears were laid to rest, you don’t have to find cooler/hotter spots which up until now had always been a stress. The Genesis II heats evenly which allows you to maximize the entire 513 sq in of grill space, I had plenty of room to grill 10 chicken thighs, 6 leg quarters, 6 – 12 oz burgers, and a loaf garlic bread. Everything came out great, the chicken had great grill markings without being burnt. Juicy? OH MY GOSH. The bread had that great smoky grilled flavor to it, I could have eaten just the bread and been happy, seriously.
Those Flavorizer Bars are the ticket, I didn’t fully appreciate their roll in the grilling process until now. They catch the drippings of your food and instead of it hitting the burner and causing a fire, they vaporize on the bars and all that deliciousness is transferred up and around your food .. good lord, Im salivating.
I didn’t buy this through Amazon ( rare for me) but I would have, this was kind of an last minute impulse buy( also rare for me). I haven’t seen any major price fluctuations on this grill, it seems to be the same no matter where I go so I feel fine about the price I paid.
I did put this together myself, by myself ( Weber recommends 2 people) and though it was lengthy, about 2-2 1/2 hours, it wasn’t difficult. The instructions are entirely by illustration but are clear and consise. It felt like a big boys erector set project and I had fun doing it, just take your time.
Sorry for the novel but this IS a great grill and I’m so pleased and happy to be the owner of one. It is built extremely well with quality materials, it’s just sexy looking … grill lovers will understand that.
