Zmodo Wireless Security Camera System (4 pack) Smart HD Outdoor WiFi IP Cameras with Night Vision

First of all, I am not some crackpot that writes a bunch of negative reviews. Most of my reviews tend to be positive. If I love something, I will rave about it. If I like something, I will tell you what I like about it. But when something sucks, I will try to warn you away. That is what I’m trying to do now.

I feel less secure having these cameras.

The cameras themselves are okay. Not great, just okay.

The app that you have to use is junk. I would use a more colorful word to describe it, but there might be children reading this.

I bought these cameras to monitor my house. I have been having a problem with a trespasser. I need to get motion alerts and a short video. (The 5 camera stills probably would have been fine if the motion detection actually worked) (More on that later).
I need something that stores briefly on the cloud and lets me move the video clips to permanent storage on my phone when necessary.

I don’t know if it’s the fault of the camera or the app, but the motion detection is so bad that out of the 50 to 100 cars that pass by my house every day, it has caught 1 car in the last 2 days. It didn’t even catch my wife’s car or mine when we went to work, came home, or left to go shopping. This is particularly frustrating because I have one of the cameras set up to watch our cars in the driveway and another set to watch the road in front of my house.

I have Despicable Me Stuart Cams by Tend that work far better than the Zmodo cameras.

I will be returning these cameras. I just wish I could get back the time I wasted installing them.

Kinda disappointed in what I got.

Here’s the deal, the camera is good and well worth the money. The picture quality is very usable and it satisfies my general requirements especially for the cost.

The problem I have, which seems to be specific to this seller (I think) is the camera mounting base is too short. The ones I previously bought had long shafts so you could mount the camera on a vertical surface and point the camera straight out. With these you can not and it substantially diminishes the value. Now I have to modify the mounts to extend the shaft or use a block. Unfortunately, this means they are not plug and play from an installation standpoint. I added a picture to illustrate it

Be advised, unless you pay a monthly subscription fee for Zmodo’s “cloud service” these do NOT record.

They’re monitor cameras at best. Calling them security cameras is a misleading scam.

The camera feels very solid. I feel confident that it is weather proof, although I have not tested it in the rain yet. The base mount is not long enough to allow direct 90 degree angle as shown by another customer image. However, it works perfectly if angled at a slight turn. I installed mine on the corners of my house and used a 1/2″ drill bit to run the wire through the soffit into the attic.

My only complaint is that these cameras do not have a micro USB storage to store images. Therefore you must use the cloud storage provided by Zmodo. The picture quality is very good in the daytime. At night, the infrared allows for night vision, although any additional light such as a headlights washes out the image.

I currently own a Zmodo Pivot and have overall been pleased with it’s performance despite some gripes. When the 4 mini cams were on sale I briefly read the reviews which overall were positive and read the product description. With a time limit on the sale I didn’t quite have an opportunity to research my purchase as much as I would have liked to.

After spending 2 hours trying to set up my cams and multiple attempts to connect with Zmodo’s network which would not show up. At one point my app just completely wouldn’t do anything. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing worked. At some point everything was just there and the cameras were live.

I’m still not a fan of Zmodo’s app it’s not very easy to navigate everything is all over the place and the setup process is a pain, not just activating your cameras but customizing them.

The cameras are too sensitive to night vision just a little shade over the cameras and they go into night vision. The live feed is okay at best, it’s grainy.

There is a huge delay on alerts I don’t know if it is server based.

***The product description says “Motion alerts will be recorded into videos instead of pictures to provide you with more details.”*** Your motion sensored recording is 5 grainy pictures. Not even a video,

8/23/17 update after complaining Zmodo asked me to wait 10 days for an app update that would allow real time recording.

And as promised it’s working. A few days ago there was another update and two of my 5 cameras no longer send me alerts or detect motion. I’ve done everything Zmodo’s techs have asked me to do and I can still waive my hand in front of the cameras with no alert. I can’t even go back and pull any previous video footage from the same day. All I can do is live view from these cameras. I’m about to go on vacation and this is the time I really needed my cameras to work. The response I get is the same as my last complaint we know it is an issue please wait for another app update. In the mean time this camera is no better than a nanny camera. I can’t stare at my screen all day watching live feeds waiting to manually record anything.

I have these cameras for when I’m away from home and here I’m going on vacation thinking these cameras will give me some peace of mind while I’m gone. That’s not going to happen. Total failure on your software side. Don’t take my word for it look at the app on the playstore it’s got a 2.6 rating.

One of my cameras the night vision stopped working just a few months after purchase. See attached pictures. Zmodo no longer responds to their chat support. I’m currently on hold on the phone with a wait time of 106 minutes…

I’m tired of babysitting these cameras that are supposed to be keeping an eye on my home!

Cameras work as described, arrived well packed, and were easy to set up. Example photo is a motion detection capture from second story window aimed at front yard.
