Got these really quick in the mail but waited one day before realizing there was another tray underneath. I could have kicked myself. The top ones were nice and green while the bottom ones were brown and smashed. Well, I went ahead and planted the brown ones first and then the green ones. Low and behold, a day or 2 later, all of them started to grow. The brown ones showed no signs of dying and were as green as could be. I was so happy about this because I heard that they would be difficult to get going. Please take a look at the photo. This was taken after only a week. The ones that were brown are located at the top half of the photo. I will post results at another time…

I ordered this for a high salt area where all other grasses have failed. As the photo shows it is a bare spot that floods with sea water at least twice a year. Zoysia is supposed to be pretty salt tolerant. Time will tell and I will update. Also the plants are in the very northeast end of the okay planting zone in Massachusetts.
The plugs have everything going against them but it was worth a try– last ditch.
The 2″ plugs went in very easily with the yard butler 9″ auger. It’s 1 -3/4″ but don’t worry the plugs will adapt fine. Good tool for 11 bucks. The plugs don’t go as far as you think. The photo below shows about a flat and 3/4 plugs distribution.
The good news is the plugs came green and healthy and are looking good and well established after 2 weeks.
Will update after a couple of seasons with a live or die report.

Update September 2017: after three months still alive -growth smaller than hoped but ok. High tides coming in winter. Will see next season if they survived.

Received the zoysia grass promptly, the grass was green, appeared healthy and ready for planting, pre-cut into small squares and easy to remove from a plastic tray. I opened the box and kept it open until I could put the plugs into the ground. The soil stayed moist and required no extra water from me although I could not plant these for over a week as it rained non-stop here. This actually worked to my advantage because the ground was wet and well saturated and thus easy to open up using a radius weeder (I used it because I already had it in my garage and it works well to open small areas in the soil). I was able to put in the plugs easily and quickly with very little effort. It has been several days and has continued to rain nearly daily (again to my advantage as I don’t need to water the plugs). The plugs are green and appear to be taking well. My zoysia grass did come with a rider (garden snail), but no biggie, I have these here already, what’s one more? So far so good.

So far so good. My plugs are growing good. Expect them to take At least 6 months to spread. I planted mine a few weeks ago. I watered them everyday up til now with rain water from my barrel. The plugs have taken. I plan to order a lot more next grass season. I ordered these to try them out. I want to watch to see how they spread. I fenced off this patch to keep the dog from killing them before they get a chance to take. This area was all clover. Make sure you keep them wet for the first few week until the roots take a hold. Its supposed to be a southern grass. I am in coastal Virginia. I think they will do well. I plan to order more through the company’s website. So far very happy. I will update once the grass spreads.

Update grass is spreading wonderfully. It has stayed green through most of the winter and survived the snow. Only one plug of 50 didn’t make it. The grass went to seed and random spots of zoysia grass has popped up around the area it was planted. So far so good. I plan to buy more in the spring.

Awesome, I was hesitant to buy, but very happy I bought it!
Planted in N Florida in Spring. Already this winter (it’s only January) we’ve had freezing temps for over two weeks and several additional days of freezing temps before getting back to our normal winter temps. All my other grass (Bermuda) turned brown, most of my plants died, but this grass has survived with minimal blades turning brown.
I can’t wait for Spring to buy more! It’s so much greener than the Bermuda even in Summer. I only wish it would spread faster, but I might be unrealistic.
It’s amazing that it ships in a box and is healthy and ready for planting.

These plugs came green and are growing nicely after being planted. Great supplier!

I live in NC where heat in summer can quickly burn out my lawn or make part of it go dormant. Not a good look for the lawn. I’ve tried all types of grass seed over the years and even tried zoysia grass seed (didn’t work as I was trying to fill in gaps in the lawn hoping it would overtake the rest of the lawn). Finally decided to try plugs. Ordered one box and all looked good. Planted and after 2 weeks, all looking great. Ordered 2 more boxes and still great quality and planed them and they seem to be holding. Just ordered 2 more boxes and planed them last night. Did notice the quality was slightly less (from a different “farm”??). But they looked pretty good so fingers crossed. Key for me will be next year and have these plugs taken and spread. I will update late in the fall and then again next spring.

I’m on my sixth tray. My first order was made in April ’17. The package arrived in a cardboard box and should be opened immediately and the plugs watered. Every tray has been perfect. The plugs are 1-1/2″ squares and are simple to remove from the tray. Water every day after planting for at least two weeks. Do not let the plugs dry out or the grass will go dormant. My soil was a clay mixture so I chose to kill off all the old vegetation, added peat moss, compost, sand and 10-10-10 starter fertilizer before using a 1-1/2″ pipe to cut the plug holes about 2″ deep. Planting was fast and easy. Every plug has taken root and is flourishing! I planted in a staggered (hexagonal closest packing) pattern 8″ apart. After three weeks the plugs are spreading and they look great. Highly recommended and almost fool proof. I also planted a “transfer” area that I will use to make my own plugs! Good bye fescue.
